Dr. John Adeolu Falode is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. He holds a B.Tech. in Biochemistry (Second Class Honours, Upper Division) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, an M.Sc. in Biochemistry (Biomembrane and Biotechnology) from the University of Ibadan, and a Ph.D. in Applied Biochemistry from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
His research spans molecular toxicology and pharmacology, membrane biochemistry, protein chemistry, phytomedicine, molecular biology, and biotechnology. His work focuses on elucidating the biochemical mechanisms underlying metabolic, neurodegenerative, and infectious diseases through the study of plant-derived bioactive compounds, mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) regulation, and molecular approaches to drug discovery. More recently, his research has expanded to the development of small-molecule inhibitors targeting alphavirus proteins for emerging viral infections.
Dr. Falode has made significant contributions to understanding the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants and natural polyphenols in diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammation, and cardiometabolic disorders. His studies have advanced knowledge of the roles of phytochemicals in modulating oxidative stress, lipid metabolism, programmed cell death, and mitochondrial integrity.
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, review papers, and book chapters in phytomedicine, pharmacology, toxicology, molecular medicine, and infectious diseases. His research excellence has earned him prestigious international fellowships, including the TETFund Postdoctoral Fellowship at Jackson State University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, USA, as well as the CONICET Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Technological University, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Beyond research, Dr. Falode serves as the Postgraduate Coordinator of the Department of Biochemistry, Managing Editor of the FUOYE Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences, Faculty Representative on the Business Committee of the Senate, and a member of the Faculty Research and Ethics Committee.
