Biography

Dr. Olofinsao Olukemi Morenike is a scholar in the Department of Linguistics and Languages at Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria. Her research interests span Yoruba language, African oral literature, folklore, cultural studies, sociolinguistics, gender studies, and performance studies, with a particular focus on the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of indigenous knowledge systems through language and oral traditions.

Her scholarly work explores the intersection of language, culture, identity, gender, and performance in Yoruba communities. She has conducted extensive research on indigenous festivals, oral poetry, traditional songs, and cultural performances, examining their roles in cultural continuity, social cohesion, moral education, and community development. Her recent studies include investigations into the Iya Ọmọ Festival and the Ùgògò Festival of Southwestern Nigeria, highlighting the significance of oral traditions in preserving cultural heritage and shaping collective memory.

Dr. Olofinsao is committed to advancing African scholarship through interdisciplinary research that bridges linguistics, literature, and cultural studies. She has presented papers at academic conferences and continues to contribute to scholarly discourse through publications in national and international journals. Her work emphasizes the documentation and revitalization of endangered oral traditions while engaging contemporary theoretical approaches such as performance theory, ethnography, and discourse analysis.

Beyond research, she is passionate about teaching, mentoring students, and promoting the study of African languages and cultures. She actively encourages collaborative research and community engagement aimed at preserving Nigeria's rich linguistic and cultural heritage for future generations. Research Interests

Dr. Olofinsao Olukemi Morenike's research interests lie at the intersection of Yoruba linguistics, African oral literature, folklore, cultural studies, performance studies, sociolinguistics, gender studies, and indigenous knowledge systems. Her work focuses on documenting, preserving, and critically interpreting Yoruba oral traditions, with particular emphasis on festival performances, oral poetry, ritual songs, proverbs, and other forms of verbal art as repositories of cultural memory and identity.

She is particularly interested in the ways language and performance shape social values, gender relations, morality, religious beliefs, and community cohesion within Yoruba society. Her research explores the dynamics of oral traditions in preserving indigenous knowledge, promoting cultural continuity, and negotiating contemporary social realities. Through ethnographic fieldwork and interdisciplinary approaches, she examines how traditional festivals, songs, and performances function as sites of identity construction, cultural transmission, and social transformation.

Her scholarly interests also extend to language documentation and revitalization, discourse analysis, literary ethnography, and the application of performance theory to African oral texts. She is committed to advancing research that bridges linguistics, literature, anthropology, and cultural studies while contributing to the global understanding of African intellectual traditions.

Her current research pays particular attention to Yoruba festival traditions, including the Iya Ọmọ and Ùgògò festivals, investigating themes of motherhood, gender, morality, memory, cultural heritage, ritual performance, and identity. Through these and related studies, she seeks to promote the preservation of Nigeria's rich cultural heritage and contribute to contemporary debates on African languages, oral traditions, and indigenous epistemologies.
