Biography

Babatunde J. Omotosho is a Professor of Sociology with over twenty years of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience. His scholarship focuses on education–labour market relations, gender, unemployment, social policy, and the structural dynamics of contemporary Nigerian society. He has strong expertise in mixed-methods research, with an established record of publications and collaborative research.
Presently, he is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics); a former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and former Director of the Academic Planning Unit. A former member, Business Committee of Senate; he presently represents Senate on the University Appointments and Promotion Committee (Academic Staff) and also serves on the Second-Level Promotion Committee, representing A&PC. He has also served as Head of the Departments of Sociology, Criminology, and Peace and Conflict Studies.
Professor Omotosho is an NRF scholar, a Catalyst Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, a Postdoctoral Fellow of the African Humanities Fellowship (American Council of Learned Societies, ACLS) (2015), an alumnus/fellow of the Mo Ibrahim Governance for Development in Africa programme (2014), and an alumnus of the Brown International Advanced Research Institutes (BIARI), USA. He has supervised over 200 undergraduate research projects, more than 30 Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s dissertations, and three Ph.D. theses, demonstrating sustained commitment to research mentorship, capacity building, and the development of emerging scholars. He continues to serve as external examiner and assessor to several universities, contributing to quality assurance and academic standards across institutions.
