Biography

Adewale, B. Daniel is a Professor of Quantitative Genetics and Agronomy and a tenure staff in the Department of Crop Science and Horticulture (CSH), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. He is a Fellow of African Plant Breeding Academy (FAfPBA), 2014 and of the Society for Underutilized Legumes (FSUL), 2025. He had first degree in Crop Production, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria, 1991, MSc. (Agronomy), University of Ibadan, Nigeria, 1995 and PhD, Plant Breeding and Seed Technology, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, 2011.
His doctoral research on Genetic Diversity, Stability and Reproductive Biology of African yam bean (Sphenostylis stenocarpa Hochst. Ex. A. Rich) Harms produced significance outcomes which provided a strong roadmap for the awareness and promotion of the underutilized legumes. Daniel is a frontline researcher on African yam bean and orphan legumes. He is the immediate past President, Society for Underutilized Legumes in Nigeria.
Adewale, B.D. joined FUOYE in August 2015. He is globally visible with >70 publications. He is an impactful teacher, supervisor and mentor. He is a seasoned reviewer for many high impact Journals, he examines postgraduate students within and outside Nigeria and has assessed scholars for professorial cadre promotions.
Daniel has maintained a very strong collaboration with the Genetic Resources Centre (GRC), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a partner with the Soybean breeding team, IITA, Ibadan, Nigeria. He recently established collaborative research network with two scientists in India.
Professor Adewale teaches and carries out research in Agronomy. He teaches biostatistics, breeding and genetics to undergraduate and post graduate students. He is an updated scholar, holds membership in national and international academic bodies, a mentor, formerly Head CSH department, postgraduate representative for the faculty of Agriculture, etc. He is presently a director, Institute for Food Security and Commercial Agriculture, FUOYE.

Research Interests

1. To showcase the values and promoting any research which can improve the utilization of underutilized especially, indigenous legumes.
2. To explore national and regional diversity of African yam bean – Sphenostylis stenocarpa, ascertain its intraspecific diversity as a tool for guided selection, breeding lines development and genetic improvement.
3. To subsequently develop African yam bean cultivars with low cooking time, high grain yield, decumbent architecture, improved food qualities, etc. through different breeding programs.
