Biography

I hold the position of associate professor in medical microbiology at the Department of Microbiology, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti, Nigeria. My research interest is in antimicrobial resistance, genomic surveillance, phytotherapy, and natural products. I am currently instructing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a variety of subjects, including general microbiology, clinical microbiology, medical microbiology, pharmaceutical microbiology, epidemiology and public health, cell and tissue culture, advanced bacteriology, immunology, mycology, and medical parasitology. I assist in shaping the curriculum and facilitate internship training. At the Drug Discovery and Infectious Diseases Research Group, I coordinate research as the lead researcher and provide guidance and oversight to undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research. I possess extensive knowledge and skills in various areas of microbiology, including laboratory techniques, bioinformatics, genomics, PCR assays, antibiotic resistance studies, in vivo experiments on mice, plant extraction and bioassays, column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, and statistical analysis using advanced software such as GraphPad Prism and SPSS. I am particularly interested in studying antibiotic resistance, genomics, phytotherapy, and the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. My objective is to establish an environment that fosters student-centered learning (pedagogy) among my students, thereby improving their learning capacities beyond the designated class time and enabling them to effectively apply the acquired knowledge. I advocate for the provision of optimal knowledge to every student through practical and interactive means in order to enhance their career and personal growth in every module, lecture, or topic. I hold the position of lead mentor at Great Minds International, Nigeria, where I specialize in providing guidance and support in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to high schools, colleges, and institutions. I also engage in public health advocacy. Additionally, I serve as a mentor for the American Society for Microbiology Fellows (ASM FLMF).
