Biography

Professor Tolulope Omolayo Ariyomo is a Professor specialising in Behavioural Ecology and Toxicology in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. She is an accomplished academic, researcher, and university administrator with over 12 years of post-PhD experience in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and academic leadership.

She earned a First Class Honours degree and a Master’s degree with Distinction from the Federal University of Technology Akure before obtaining a PhD in Animal and Plant Sciences from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, under a prestigious doctoral scholarship. She began her academic career as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Sheffield in 2009 before joining FUOYE as Lecturer I in 2015. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2018, Reader in 2021, and Professor in 2024.

Her research focuses on evolutionary biology, fish behavioural ecology, aquatic toxicology, fisheries management, fish genetics, epigenetics, and sustainable aquaculture. She has authored over 35 scholarly publications in reputable national and international journals and conference proceedings, advancing understanding of fish personality, behavioural evolution, aquatic pollution, environmental toxicology, and fisheries development.

Professor Ariyomo has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students and serves as an external examiner, editor, and reviewer for scientific journals. She has held strategic leadership positions, including Deputy Dean, Acting Head of Department, Deputy Director of Gender Studies, and Managing Editor of the FUOYE Journal of Agriculture and Human Ecology. She has also served on the Federal Government's National Laureate Committee and the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank Policy Drafting Committee. She remains committed to advancing scholarship, mentorship, innovation, food security, community service, and environmental sustainability through impactful research, academic leadership, professional service, and collaborative partnerships that strengthen higher education, fisheries, aquaculture, and national development.
