Biography

I am Joshua Bature Hassan, a Lecturer II in the Department of Computer Science at Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. I hold a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Computer Science and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Computer Science with Distinction. I am currently rounding up my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, where my research focuses on Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computational Linguistics, and Speech Emotion Recognition.
Throughout my academic journey, I have remained committed to excellence and continuous learning. I was a recipient of the prestigious MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship (MTNF-STS). During my doctoral studies, I emerged as the first-place winner in a research competition, receiving the prize for the originality and impact of my research.
My research interests include Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computational Linguistics, Speech Emotion Recognition, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), and Data Science. My work is particularly focused on developing intelligent language technologies and speech-based systems for low-resource languages, reducing algorithmic bias, and advancing AI solutions tailored to African contexts.
As part of my doctoral research, I developed a novel Nigerian Speech Emotion Dataset (NISEDS) and proposed a stacked ensemble learning framework for speaker-independent speech emotion recognition, contributing to the advancement of affective computing and intelligent speech processing systems. I have authored and co-authored scholarly publications in reputable journals and continue to contribute to research in artificial intelligence and computational intelligence.
Beyond research, I am passionate about teaching, mentoring students, and fostering innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration. I am committed to equipping the next generation of computer scientists with the knowledge, skills, and ethical values needed to develop technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges.
