Biography
Lawrence Bunmi Adewole (PhD) is a distinguished Nigerian computer scientist, academic, and researcher currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. Proudly hailing from Osun State, Dr. Adewole has dedicated over a decade to advancing higher education and technological innovation in the region.
His academic foundation was laid at the University of Ado-Ekiti, where he earned a BSc. in Computer Science with Second Class Upper honors in 2009. Driven by a passion for advanced computing, he completed his M.Sc. at the prestigious University of Ibadan in 2012, followed by a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in 2019.
Dr. Adewole’s core research interests lie at the intersection of Data Mining, Scheduling and Optimization, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Computational Linguistics. He has a particularly notable footprint in low-resource language processing, authoring numerous peer-reviewed studies on Yoruba machine translation, numeral translation, and parts-of-speech tagging. His research portfolio spans over twenty highly cited journal articles and conference papers, including prominent Scopus-indexed publications in PLOS ONE, Computers in Biology and Medicine, and Scientific African.
As an educator, his impactful teaching earned him the Outstanding Lecturer of the Year award at the 2018 Southwest Nigeria Education Awards. His academic leadership is reflected in his extensive mentorship, having supervised over 60 undergraduate projects alongside more than fifteen M.Sc. and Ph.D. candidates.
A dedicated professional, Dr. Adewole actively holds memberships in the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), and the International Association of Engineers (IAENG). He is also continuously upskilling, holding certifications in Google Cloud Development and GDPR data protection compliance.
