Biography

Prof. Sola Ojo earned his B.Sc. Geology from Unilorin, M.Sc Petroleum Geology, UI, and Ph.D Geology UNILORIN. He undertook a DAAD-sponsored postdoctoral research visit to the Technical University of Berlin in 2001. He attended a PTDF-sponsored certificate course in Higher Education and Academic Practice at the School of Business Management, Grenoble and also attended and passed with Distinction many capacity-building courses at the Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education, National Open University of Nigeria. His academic career started in UI in 1993 and after a brief stint, moved to Unilorin where he rose through ranks and has been a Professor of Petroleum Geology in FUOYE, Oye-Ekiti since 2015. Prof. Ojo is currently the PTDF Chair Professor of Petroleum Geology in UNN, Nsukka with research focus energy resources of the southern Benue Trough. He has served the University community in various capacities: Acting Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Director of Consultancy, Chairman, University Examination Committee, Head of Department, and Chairman Students Disciplinary Committee. He has also served as external examiner and professorial assessor in many Universities within and outside Nigeria. He has won National Research Fund grant, participated as co-investigator in Volkswagen Foundation, Germany and PTDF-sponsored research on the petroleum and basins studies of Nigeria. He had a privileged sabbatical tenure at SPDC, Port Harcourt. These activities have significantly influenced the state of knowledge of Nigeria the Bida, Anambra and Benue basins through publication of over hundred impactful articles. His recognition awards include the prestigious NMGS/NAPIMS/PROF. REYMENT AWARD for his excellent contribution to the geology of Nigeria, NAPE most outstanding Earth Science Lecturer Award NOELA 2017, NMGS/TotalEnergies award for best paper presented at NMGS Conference in 2021 and 2022, and most outstanding researcher in FUOYE, 2021.
