Biography
Dr. Charity Amaka Ben-Enukora is an accomplished media scholar, researcher, and academic leader specialising in health communication, risk communication, and social and behavior change communication (SBCC). She currently serves as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Mass Communication. With a career deeply rooted in exploring how strategic media positioning drives behavioural change, Dr. Ben-Enukora has made substantial contributions to environmental health communication, disaster risk management, and digital media advocacy.
Dr. Ben-Enukora earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Anambra State University (now Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University) Uli, before advancing to Covenant University, Ota, where she completed both her Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mass Communication. Over nearly a decade in higher education and academic, she has held key teaching and administrative roles at prestigious Nigerian institutions, including Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE)and Landmark University, Omu-Aran.
Dr. Ben-Enukora’s research focuses on the intersection of media frameworks, public health dynamics, and community resilience. Her work actively interrogates how communities process risk information regarding endemic health threats (such as Lassa fever, viral hepatitis, and kidney disease), climate change adaptation, and environmental crises like the annual flooding disruptions in rural Nigeria. She has authored dozens of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters featured in prestigious global repositories, including Discover Social Science and Health, Heliyon, Journal of Agriculture and Food Research, and publications by Palgrave Macmillan and Springer. Committed to cross-disciplinary impact between communication and global health initiatives, Dr. Ben-Enukora is a member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) and other learning societies. She has won several awards including the 2024 Early Career Grant Award from Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
