Biography

EGBO, Ken Amaechi is a Reader (Associate Professor) and a Socio-Criminologist in the Department of Criminology and Security Studies, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He is a prominent scholar, academic, and researcher specializing in the fields of criminology, security studies, sociology of deviance, community policing/law enforcement and cybersecurity . He lived and trained in the United States of America for 28 years, after which he joined Federal University Oye-Ekiti in 2012. His academic profile highlights extensive research into contemporary socio-economic challenges, the dynamics of institutional and community policing, and the structural causes of youth deviance and vulnerability within Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Nigeria.
-Areas of Research and Specialization: Dr. Egbo’s body of work cuts across several critical thematic areas within contemporary sociology, criminology and security studies.
-Criminology and Security Studies: Investigating the links between structural vulnerabilities, institutional failures, and crime. He frequently focuses on modern policing paradigms, analyzing the shifts between formal state policing mechanisms and informal, local security structures.
-Youth Deviance, Violence, and Socio-Economic Vulnerability: A substantial portion of his research evaluates the socio-economic conditions driving youth crime. He explores issues such as the get-rich-quick syndrome, ritual killings, and youth violence, linking these behavioral outcomes to macro-level challenges like youth unemployment and systemic insecurity.
-Gender Dynamics and Social Welfare: Exploring issues of gender inequality, domestic violence across distinct ethno-religious groups, family structures, and how these internal micro-dynamics relate to larger systemic trends like juvenile delinquency.
