Research Interests
My research interest emanated from my Masters of Science Thesis on the Variations in Solid Waste Disposal Practices in Ede, Osun State, Nigeria”, and the Ph.D work on “Assessment of Solid Waste Management in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria”. Thus, my research emphasis has been on Environmental Management, with emphasis on environmental sanitation, waste generation, disposal and management. In order to sharpen this focus, many of my articles are on various aspects of solid waste management activities carried out on different urban activity areas such as residential, higher institutions, secondary school, market among others. Some of the papers are on other environmental matters such as sanitation, environmental health, environmental quality, facilities management, urban land use and urban security.
Some of my articles examined the quantity and the components of waste generated among residents with varied socio-economic backgrounds through actual measurement spanning the various ecological periods of the year. Furthermore, per capita waste generation has been established through which an estimation could be made for total waste generation for different activity areas. Similarly, these figures were established for major waste components.
As it is well known in Urban and Regional Planning that effective environmental management cannot be in place without residents’ input, thus, I ventured to an area that is often neglected in environmental management-residents’ and academic space users ’ perceptions. Issues investigated include the residents’ actual aspiration and satisfaction with environmental quality, and perception of environmental hazards and risks in some specific public spaces. All these were empirically verified.
The analyses of my papers support the above. The overall interest of my research is that effective environmental management can evolve through understanding of what is generated as waste into the environment and users’ inputs into the strategies to manage the environment.
