Biography

Dr. Ibe Ben Onoja is a communication scholar, lecturer, and researcher with extensive experience in research, teaching and administration. He is a member of the academic staff of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, where he teaches and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students while contributing to research, curriculum development, and academic administration.
Dr. Onoja holds academic qualifications in Mass Communication and has established a distinguished record in teaching, research, and community engagement. His research interests include development communication/journalism, new media and development studies, health communication, media framing, political communication, conflict and peace communication, and communication for behavioural change. His scholarly works have been published in reputable national and international journals, edited books, and conference proceedings, including a book chapter published by Springer.
Over the years, Dr. Onoja has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including African Communication System, Development Communication, News Writing and Reporting, Media Law and Ethics, Political Communication, Newspaper Production, Development Communication Theories and Strategies, and Seminar in Development Communication. He has successfully supervised several postgraduate dissertations and continues to mentor Master's and doctoral students in communication and media studies.
His research has attracted competitive funding, including a Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Research Grant. Beyond academia, he has contributed to national development through professional engagements with organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Nigerian Press Council, and national voter education programmes. He has also served as a resource person at academic and professional workshops.
Dr. Onoja is passionate about applying communication research to address contemporary societal challenges in health, governance, media, security, and sustainable development. His current research explores digital public discourse, media framing, audience engagement, artificial intelligence in communication, and strategic communication for social transformation. He actively welcomes opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration, consultancy, academic partnerships, and postgraduate supervision.
