Area of Specialization: Nanobiotechnology, Phytomedicine, and AI-Driven Drug Discovery

Biography

Dr. Akinyelu Jude is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at Federal University Oye-Ekiti. He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, where his doctoral research focused on the development of ligand-tagged polymeric and gold nanoparticles for targeted gene and drug delivery to selected cancer cells. He also holds an M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and a B.Tech. (Hons) in Biochemistry from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria.

His research interests span nanobiotechnology, phytomedicine, translational medicine, and computational drug discovery. Driven by a passion for continuous learning and innovation, he integrates bioinformatics and artificial intelligence with these disciplines to address pressing biomedical challenges and advance the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic solutions.

He has collaborated and continues to collaborate with researchers from Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada on a wide range of multidisciplinary research projects. These collaborations include ground-breaking studies on the targeted delivery of betulinic acid to cancer cell mitochondria using eco-friendly synthesized gold nanoparticles; the design and synthesis of biogenic silver and selenium nanoparticles with anticancer, antioxidant, antidiabetic, and anticholinesterase properties; the evaluation of oxaunomycin as a repurposed therapeutic candidate for cancer treatment; and investigations into the susceptibility of the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein and RNA-dependent RNA polymerase to mutational changes.

Dr. Akinyelu has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly publications, including scientific articles in reputable international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

He is a recipient of the prestigious National Research Foundation-The World Academy of Science (NRF – TWAS) Renaissance Doctoral Scholarship, NRF-TWAS travel grant, and TETFund-supported research grant.
