Biography

Dr. Opeyemi Y. Omotuyi is a legal scholar, researcher, and academic. She holds an LL.B degree from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009. She practiced as a legal practitioner in Nigeria briefly before proceeding to the University of Cape Town, where she obtained an LLM in 2013. Her LLM dissertation explores corporate sustainability with a focus on the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry. In 2020, she obtained a PhD in law from the University of the Witwatersrand with a thesis which explores the strategic role of the private sector in combating economic inequality and promoting inclusive development.
She currently lectures in the Faculty of Law at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria, where she teaches law of contract and environmental law. Generally, Dr. Omotuyi's research explores the role of law in the realization of the global sustainable development agenda. Her scholarly work focus majorly on the intersection of law and aspects of sustainable development particularly, environmental sustainability and social justice. Her primary areas of research expertise and publication include, environmental protection and management, energy and climate change, corporate social responsibility, and human rights and development. Some of her research outputs in these areas are published in various reputable journals and academic textbooks.
Dr Omotuyi is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT), and the National Association of Women in Academics (NAWACS).
