Senior Lecturer

Department of Physics, Faculty of Physical Science

Area of Specialization: Geomagnetism, Solar Physics with focus on Space Weather, Upper Atmospheric, Planetary and Space Physics

Biography

I am a dynamic researcher in Earth-Space observations, holding a Ph.D. in Space Physics and a strong background in Physics, space science and computational methods. With over 14 years of experience in research, teaching, and scientific communication, I specialize in space weather, ionospheric physics, and geomagnetism. My expertise includes teaching managing large datasets, computation, and data analysis, complemented by a strong publication record of over 25 SCOPUS-indexed articles. I have actively participated in more than 35 international and national conferences and workshops focused on space weather, ionospheric dynamics, and GNSS applications. I am eager to integrate space-based and ground-based instruments to address real-world challenges in space science, particularly in the areas of Earth's magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere coupling, upper atmospheric disturbances driven by space weather and climate dynamics, and the development of advanced predictive models and hybrid models using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN).

Research Interests

My work focuses on the upper atmosphere and climate dynamics as well as its effects on space- and ground-based technological systems, which includes understanding the magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, ionosphere irregularities, space weather and their effects on space based technology: the effect of space weather and ionosphere on GNSS and its augmentation systems (SBAS, GBAS) operations; the art and science of the Equatorial Ionization Anomaly Gradients and ionospheric Irregularities on Space-based and its augmentation systems; the Effects of Space Weather and Lower Atmospheric processes in triggering and inhibiting the Equatorial Ionospheric Plasma Irregularities over African sector; and their impact on Space-based systems Variability of Geomagnetic activities and electrodynamics of Equatorial Ionosphere. My field of research involves satellite data gathering, solar event prediction, post-event analysis and scientific clarification, which has potential to enhance and support efficient service when looking for space weather mitigation. During my PhD studies (August 2012-September 2017), I discovered that the impact of space weather on earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere affects the global navigation satellite systems that is yet to understand fully in African equatorial regions. Thus, I engaged in cutting-edge research to quantify the upper atmospheric dynamics in relation to the space weather effects and ionospheric anomaly processes originating from lower atmosphere. Moreover, my research gave the possible improvement that could be brought to satellite navigation operational efficiency most especially for aviation personnel amongst many others.
