Biography
Ayobami Onanuga has a Ph.D. from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, where she studied the victimhood of homosexual characters, and the agency of women in sexually oppressing male homosexuals in African fictional narratives. She was a Digital Humanism Fellow with the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen, Vienna. She lectures at the Department of English and Literary Studies, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti where her teaching intersects her research interests on African fiction, genocide narratives, and queer and gender studies. She co-guest edited a Special Issue on Nigeria Queer migration with African Identities and is presently rounding up guest-editing a Special Issue on Contemporary Dating and Matchmaking in Nigeria Digital Media with Journal of Gender Studies. Her articles have been published in Journal of Literary Studies, Society, Contemporary Music Review, Journal of the African Literature Association, African Identities, Green Letters, and others.
Research Interests
I am interested in African fictional and non-fictional narratives especially those related to human rights, genocides and gender/sexuality. My research also delves into Digital media productions on pop culture, gender and sexuality. In my research writings, I apply postcolonial theory, agency theory, gender and queer theories to the discussion of texts and relate these to contemporary realities.
