Biography

Professor Kazeem Olasunkanmi Ajeigbe is a distinguished academic and researcher in human physiology, currently serving as a Full Professor in the department of Physiology, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti. He is a leading figure in physiological research in Nigeria, known for his work in gastrointestinal health, science communication, and academic leadership. He earned his BSc, MSc, and PhD in Physiology from the University of Ibadan. As an undergraduate, he was an Islamic Development Bank (IDB) scholar from 1998-2001, and has received several grants, both local and international, in support of his research efforts, science communication and conference attendance. He is a member of professional societies like Physiological Society of Nigeria, African Association of Physiological Sciences and The Physiological Society, UK. The forte of Prof. Ajeigbe’s research activities and interests centre on gastric secretion, inflammation and carcinogenesis with special interest on how xenobiotics and dietary factors affect the gastric ulcer healing process and, development and progression of carcinoma using biochemical, cellular and molecular approaches. He has authored well over fifty-five (55) peer-reviewed publications, including abstract proceedings both locally and internationally, having supervised over 200 dissertations/theses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. His research activities over the past decade highlight his key contributions in gastrointestinal physiology, heat-stress biology, and nutraceutical interventions, after transitioning from drug-induced gastrointestinal pathologies to exploring herbal and protective agents. Currently, he is exploring computer-aided methodologies and other multidisciplinary approaches for drug design and development to tackle prevalent organ pathologies in the society, however not limited to gastrointestinal system only. Prof. Ajeigbe is a member of the editorial board of the Nigerian Journal of Physiological Sciences (NJPS), Public Relations Officer for Physiological Society of Nigeria, and also external examiner to many public and private universities in Nigeria. He is married with children.

Impact of dietary factors and screening of natural products in the management of organ pathologies.

Cellular and molecular mechanisms of organ-organ interactions, especially the brain-gut and brain-heart axes, in health and disease.
