Dr. Oluwafijimi Yomi ADETUYI

Lecturer I

Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences

Area of Specialization: Enzyme Biotechnology and Environmental Bioremediation

Biography

Dr. Adetuyi Oluwafijimi holds a doctorate in Applied Biochemistry from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, which he bagged in 2024. He currently serves as a lecturer and researcher at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State. His research specializes in Enzyme and Immobilization Biotechnology, biopolymers, green chemistry, and sustainable biotechnology. He has supervised over 20 undergraduate students and is a member of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He has authored several articles published in high-impact national and international journals.

Research Interests

My research interests lie at the intersection of applied biochemistry, molecular biotechnology, and biomaterials, with a focus on enzyme discovery, characterization, and engineering for environmental and biomedical applications. I am particularly interested in microbial enzymes, especially laccases, their production optimization, immobilization, and catalytic applications in pollutant degradation and sustainable bioprocesses. My work also explores the extraction, modification, and structure–function relationships of chitin and chitosan for pharmaceutical and biomedical applications. In addition, I am interested in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and molecular tools for developing improved biocatalysts. My long-term goal is to develop innovative, environmentally sustainable biotechnological solutions that address challenges in healthcare, environmental remediation, and industrial biotechnology.
