Lecturer II

Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences

Area of Specialization: Environmental Microbiology

Biography

Dr Uchechukwu Chinwe NEBO, is a Lecturer in the department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, FUOYE. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), with specialization in Environmental Microbiology. Her research focuses on developing sustainable bioremediation strategies for petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Her work explores the application of microbial biofilms and biocatalytic enzymes for degradation and detoxification of environmental pollutants.
Dr Nebo also employs advanced genomics and molecular approaches, including CRISPR-Cas technologies, whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics to unravel genetic, molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying microbial stress tolerance, environmental adaptation and biodegradation. She is committed to promoting environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, food security and public health.
Her long-term goal is to contribute to global efforts in developing nature-based solutions for pollution remediation and sustainable environmental management through cutting-edge microbial biotechnology.
Dr Uchechukwu Nebo is an Awardee of 2025 African German Network of Excellence in Science (AGNES)-BAYER Research Grant, supported by Alexander von Humboldt (AvH), for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa.
