Area of Specialization: Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Biography
Dr. Abass Akande Faremi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics at Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. Since 2015, I have been working as an Experimental Condensed Matter Physicist at FUOYE, where I have specialized in the fabrication and characterization of energy solution-driven materials, including thin films, nanocomposites, perovskites, and nanomaterials, and renewable energy applications such as photovoltaics. I completed my PhD in Physics (Condensed Matter Physics) from Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in 2021, and my thesis was on the fabrication of Cadmium Telluride and Cadmium Sulphide-aided Silicon Nanoparticles for photovoltaic and sensor applications. I also have an M.Tech. in Condensed Matter Physics (2014) and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics and Electronics (Second Class Upper Division, 2008) from Adekunle Ajasin University.
My research is mainly dedicated to renewable energy applications with emphasis on photovoltaics, and my work involves advanced techniques such as electrodeposition, chemical bath deposition, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, and SCAPS simulation for device modelling. I have established an international profile during my Postdoctoral Fellowship (2022β2025) and Visiting Researcher (2020β2021) at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, where I contributed to research on heterostructured thin films (e.g., CdTe/CdS, MoSβ/ZnS, CuSe) for solar energy applications, leading to several Scopus-indexed publications.
I also supervise B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD students working on thin-film and perovskite-based photovoltaic materials. I have served as Departmental Examination Officer, 400-Level Adviser, and Coordinator of Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme. I am a member of the Nigerian Institute of Physics.
