Biography
Dr Waleola Bukola Ige is an early career researcher and experienced nurse-midwife educator whose work centers on quality of care in maternal and newborn health in Nigeria. Her scholarship examines how health systems, provider training, and interprofessional collaborations shape the quality and safety of maternity services. She is particularly committed to ensuring that every woman receives care that is evidenced based, respectful and client centered. Dr. Ige's research on quality midwifery education produced a grounded theory model aimed at strengthening preservice training for midwives. the model addresses gaps in clinical competence, supervision, and mentorship that directly impact quality of care in health facilities. In the area of respectful maternity care, her qualitative study , " provision of respectful maternity care by midwives during childbirth in Lagos State ,Nigeria" investigates how providers attitude, communication, and facility conditions affect women's utilization of skilled care. The findings underscore that technical competence alone is insufficient but dignity , respect. and responsiveness are essential components of quality maternal care.
she has published in peer-reviewed journals including BMC, MDPI and African Journal of Reproductive Health. Dr. Ige collaborates with academic institutions, clinicians, and development partners to conduct implementation research that improves quality at the point of service delivery. Her work aligns with SDG3 and Nigeria's strategies for reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. Her central conviction is that quality of care is foundation of safe motherhood . through research , training and advocacy, Dr. Ige continues to advance systems that deliver competent, respectful, and equitable care for all women during pregnancy and childbirth.
