Biography

Professor Basiru Olaitan Ajiboye is a Professor of Biochemistry whose research focuses on Phytomedicine, Bioinformatics, and Molecular Toxicology, with particular emphasis on the prevention and management of metabolic diseases, cancer, and their associated complications. His work integrates Natural Product Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Toxicology, and computational approaches to investigate the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants and functional foods as safe, affordable, and effective therapeutic agents.
His research has advanced the understanding of plant-derived bioactive compounds and their molecular mechanisms in mitigating oxidative stress, inflammation, metabolic disorders, and cancer, providing scientific evidence for their therapeutic applications.
Professor Ajiboye has taught and supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students who have progressed to successful careers in academia, research, and industry. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles, including more than 168 Scopus-indexed publications, with over 4,500 citations on Google Scholar. He is recognized among the World's Top 2% Scientists in the Stanford University–Elsevier Scopus-based ranking. Since 2019, he has consistently ranked among Nigeria's Top 500 Researchers in SciVal and is currently listed among the country's Top 100 researchers based on scholarly productivity and impact.
He serves on the editorial boards of several reputable scientific journals and has acted as an External Examiner for postgraduate programmes at the University of Zululand, North-West University, the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban University of Technology, and several Nigerian universities. He has also served as an External Assessor for academic promotions and maintains active research collaborations across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.
His research group is actively engaged in translational research, developing evidence-based herbal products for infectious and non-communicable diseases while advancing affordable natural therapeutics through innovative research, mentorship, and international collaboration.
