Biography
Prof. Engr. Ibrahim A. Adeyanju is a Professor in the department of Computer Engineering at Federal University Oye-Ekiti. He is the current Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), the Federal Government’s ICT infrastructure and digital services company under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE). A distinguished scholar and technology leader, he brings to this role a wealth of experience in intelligent systems, innovation management, and digital transformation.
He holds a B.Tech. (First Class Honors) in Computer Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Nigeria, and earned both his Master’s and Doctorate (PhD) degrees inComputingfromRobertGordonUniversity (RGU),Aberdeen,United Kingdom, with research specializations inArtificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at RGU, sponsored by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences ResearchCouncil (EPSRC). Before joining GBB, Prof. Adeyanju served as Professor of Intelligent Systems and Pioneer Director of Quality Assurance at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), where he made significant contributions to academic excellence and institutional development.
Appointed Executive Director, Digital Exploration and Technical Services at GBB in April 2023, his outstanding performance and visionary leadership led to his appointment as Managing Director/CEO in March 2024byHisExcellency,President BolaAhmedTinubu. Under his leadership, Galaxy Backbone continues to strengthen its national ICT infrastructure —spanningover5,000kmoffibrebackboneacross 28 states,state-of-the-artTier III andTier IV data centres, and a 24-hour Service desk and Cybersecurity Operations Centre; while driving Nigeria’s digital transformation, innovation, and capacity-building agenda. Prof. Adeyanju’s tenure is defined by a commitment to excellence, collaboration, and innovation, charting a transformative path for both Galaxy Backbone and Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
