Biography

Dr. Samuel Olumide Akande is an adjunct lecturer and senior researcher in the Department of Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology, Faculty of Agriculture (FUOYE). After completing a 7-month internship with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and Master’s degree in Space Science and Technology (Remote Sensing/GIS Option), both from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Nigeria. As a doctoral researcher, Samuel Akande completed training programs with Advanced Diploma certificates in Digital Earth & Geoinformatics (University of Salzburg, Austria) and Agro-biodiversity in Climate Sciences (Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy). He also presented parts of his research titled “climate change impacts on rice yield and production in Nigeria”, at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 2019. After completing his PhD research in 2021, Dr. Akande worked with the African Center of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) as a visiting researcher under the GCRF African SWIFT program.
Over the past fifteen (15) years, Dr. Akande’s research and development work has been on the land-water-energy nexus, numerical weather prediction, water resources systems, renewable energy, and climate change adaptation across the land-ocean-atmosphere. He has conducted research in North America, Europe, and across Africa. His active research is also presented in about 45 peer-reviewed articles.
